Hi Danny!  I think you are treading a dangerous line when you label people either "real premies" or "fence-sitters".  This is very simplistic, black and white, all or nothing kind of thinking.  Things were more complex than that, for the many who were between those two extremes--and lots of very dedicated and sincere people that I know, myself included, went in and out of different levels of understanding, trust, commitment and service, at different times.  Understood that the ashram premies have been around the longest, and quite possibly did give up the most--but I think we have to avoid this hierarchy thing of who gave the most, who lost the most, who won the most medals and such.  It was bad enough dealing with the hierarchy of favor and privilege at the time one WAS a premie!  We are all human beings with varying levels of trust, commitment, sacrifice and so on--but please avoid these simplistic labels that include some and exclude others.  You can't really measure sincerity, and you can't really measure loss.  It's a very individual thing.

Also, it smacks a bit of what M used to say himself--accusing us of being "fence-sitters" if we weren't throwing everything his way, all the time!  Guilt-tripping us into more dedication, and not appreciating us for who we really were as individaul people at all.  I for one certainly don't want to be labelled this way, either as the premie I was, or as an ex.  It's been hard enough extracting myself from this trip!

I'll be interested to see what you feel about this.

All the best,

Shelagh
