The late Dr. Jan van der Lans, professor in the psychology of religion at the university of Nijmegen (now Radboud University),
held interviews with Dutch members of the DLM. He observed from the interviews that, in contrast to other groups like Ananda Marga, many DLM members showed fanatical religious zeal.

He theorized that this zeal was due to the habit of the DLM to have members wait and beg for their initiation into Knowledge.

I have read van der Lans' 1981 book in which the interviews were published and it is, in contrast to the accusations at Wikipedia, not anti-cult or biased, though he wrote it on commission by a Dutch Catholic center for Mental health: he had to defend his balanced research results against the accusation by the public that he had himself been indoctrinated by the cults that he researched.
