I wonder if Rawat really wrote this himself.  It seems above his literary capabilities.

This is the human sentiment of God as my best friend, in fact my only Friend.  Forsaking all others, all the manifest world in fact, to merge with the Beloved for Infinity.

Universal religious impulse, but scary as hell.  And stupid.

The footprints in the sand analogy is the same thing, although romantically diluted.  Being "born again" into the spirit after dying to the flesh.  The Buddha's Nirvana.  Samadhi.  Etc.  You'll find it everywhere.

In death, we have no choice but to enter into this silent solitude, but should we really attempt it in life?  I used to think yes, but now I think it is nothing but a mistake. This is an impossible undertaking and those who try it never succeed, they only pretend. They end up settling for a rebirthing of their own imagination, partly living in the world and partly pretending to be spiritual.  My understanding is this:  there is no spirituality apart from living.  Accept life.  If you try to deny yourself, you will become pathological, not enlightened.

Still, we are going to die, and we can't escape that silent hope entirely.

As far as the possibility that Rawat is referring to himself as the only Friend, here in the flesh to help solidify the transaction, well, that is hugely absurd and there is nothing more to say about it other than denounce it.  There is no greater con.  And those who fall for it are the greatest fools.
