Yes, I understand your concerns regarding dismantling institutions, as I'm mainly conservative minded, & people who think like me are generally suspicious of radical change.

However, when the purpose of an institution has become skewed then some sort of remedial action is necessary.

In the case of the US EPA I would say that the laudable objectives of improving the environment have become secondary to the imposition of an unachievable politically motivated goal. One which is entirely intolerant of dissent, moreover.

I don't see why shaking that up is 'a bad thing', though if doing so hinders progress in solving genuine  environmental problems, then I'd blame the hijackers first off.

I don't know what Trump is doing in health, food and financial regulations, though it was Clinton who repealed the Glass Steagall Act, wasn't it. Has Trump done anything quite so disruptive, if so I've missed it.

The pandemic.............well.....I've been too busy trying to make sense of the UK govt response to this to pay much attention to what's happening in the US, but I believe the Imperial College flawed computer model, run by the now discredited Prof Ferguson, played a major part in decisions made both here & in the US as to how to proceed.

Why politicians continue to rely on these ju-ju merchants beats me, but it goes back a long way. Julius Caesar consulted the entrails, but at least he made the right decisions, though as he was Pontifex Maximus at one point in his career, as Emperor he may have glossed over results he knew were a load of old bollocks.

In the UK the institutional decay which has led to the mismanagement, set in many decades ago & is directly related to centralisation & privatisation schemes which have dismantled both the local authority jurisdiction over outbreaks of disease, but also the resources to tackle them.

In the context of relative success, one can note that Germany has a system of govt largely devised by British constitutional legal experts after 1945, & Japan has a health infrastructure set up by American advisors in 1935 & unchanged still.

As both countries, Japan especially, seem to be dealing with the virus much better than either the UK or the US, what's to say except...... why don't we take our own advice.

btw, I'm very wary of foxes in henhouses. As an old geezer I'm more of a hen than a fox.
