This belief that premies (and other religious people) have that a life without a belief in God is dark and meaningless is part of the mental prison that keeps them trapped in their belief system. How could they possibly entertain doubts about the true nature of their Lord or the "self-effulgent light" when their perception of the alternative is so uninviting? I don't know whether God exists but my life is filled with love, warmth and meaning (and even light when the storms haven't knocked out the power).Joy is right though when she says she can't have a rational discussion - her beliefs disallow that possibility.
