Prem Rawat allowed it to be claimed in some of the EV propaganda that many people came to his ashrams who were caught up in drugs and other trips that were going on bigtime in the 70's. He made it sound like it was a service that he was providing to society at large and to his followers specifically, to offer physical and spiritual shelter to vulnerable young people who were looking for the meaning to life in so many ways. Ok, let's just say that was true, just for the sake of this scenario I am presenting.
If that were true, then how could a caring, fatherly teacher of love and truth all of a sudden cast all these people into the streets a few years later, after he had demanded their undivided attention and devotion to be in his ashram and his service, promising them a life of devotion and service to him on that path. They took a vow, but did he? Guess not.
For any parents out there, can you fathom offering your emotionally damaged child and his friends shelter in your home and then for no apparent reason, kick them out knowing that many could not cope yet? Maybe some had developed skills to survive, but from what I have read and gathered, it was not a very smooth transition for many.
This came to me the other day as I was driving. I was aware of the ashram thing before, but it is more obvious now, after realizing what I just wrote above.
