When I wrote that bit about killing the messenger, I was actually parodying the old story about when you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him.

I thought of making this clear, but guessed someone might see the mini-allusion. Personally, I'm all love and light, and don't like killing people.

Yes, we do have a special inner voice, which is of a slightly different quality from the other voices which perpetually assail us.
It's the quiet voice of conscience, which the oldies used to talk about when I was brought up.
It's strange, but we never seem to hear much about that these days..

Maybe it's because its sometimes associated with the soul, with God inside us, and all of this is not tremendeously PC among the internet chattering classes these days.

Naturally, it could be our subconscious talking to us in the guise of a wise old friend.
The objection to that may be that this voice sometimes tells us the answer to problems and questions which have been tormenting us, with a wisdom superior to anything which we have associated with our own intelligence or thinking process.
