I think that Marolyn's mind must have been incredibly tortured. To honestly believe that you were married to God - which I am sure she did, and then to start having doubts, would have been torture. Many of us have suffered from the "Judas" syndrome, feeling that we were betraying God by doubting Rawat, but she was actually the one who was "chosen" by him to be his wife.

Add to that the fact that her kids probably weren't abused - quite the contrary, it sounds like Rawat indulged their every whim. I remember a story about how Rawat drove all over town to get one of his kids a toy they really wanted. I think that the kids probably didn't want Marolyn to leave Rawat, and she might have stayed with him for them. I know many women who have stayed in their unhappy marriages "for the kids". I don't agree with this type of thinking, but that's my perspective and I know others who disagree with me.

Once the kids were grown, and she had already suffered a stroke, I imagine she felt it was just too hard to leave, so why not stay and just live her own life, independent of him?

Princess Diana got out of her abusive relationship, but she had therapy, and friends to support her. Marolyn was and still is, surrounded by the cult. I agree that she probably doesn't have a lot of inner strength, but that is more to be pitied than anything else. She has money and comfortable surroundings, but who would want that life?? Not me.
