When I listened to that old satsang, I wasn't concerned about the issue of whether Rawat said he was God or not (although of course I should have been). I was comparing his satsangs at the time (late 80s) to his satsangs in the 70s. I must have picked one from the 70s that was fairly mild, as I used that one satsang as sufficient evidence that he hadn't changed his story. But I think you have a point about the two positions premies can take, but I think there are shades in between. I believed that some hiding of the truth was OK because of Rawat's position, but I didn't think we were hiding anything particularly important about the past. I don't recall recognising an 'EV line'. I think I only accepted Maharaji's word on anything after satsang was stopped.
But as I said before, I didn't think about any of this too deeply.
