I never heard of that, but I assume his parents were paying for his eduction up until the end and the cult wasn't paying for it.  That's what it sounds like.

But it's true a lot of premies were deprgrammed -- and almost all of them who didn't excape were successfully deprogrammed.  I can think of at least 10 or so of the people I lived with in the ashram.  Mostly they were from fairly wealthy families who had the money to do it, because it was very expensive.

One person who is still a follower of Maharaji, Richard Cooper, who appears in the cult's internal newsletter and seems to be coordinating EV's attempts to get those meaningless "proclamations" from clueless governmental officials, was kidnapped by his parents and they attempted to have him deprogrammed.  This would have been around 1978-1979.  I think his Connecticut family was quite wealthy.

Anyhow, old "Coops" was a true devotee, and rather than submit to the horrors of possible rejection of the Lord, he jumped out of a second story window and espcaped, but he broke his leg in the process.  He went around with a large cast for quite some time, and he was considered a high devotee for his bravery.

Deprogramming became such a problem for the Rawat cult in the 70s and 80s, that the cult had a special section at festivals for people whose parents were trying to kidnap them to have them depgrogrammed.  This was so special "security" could be provided to them.  Festivals were notorious occasions when kidnapping for depgorgamming took place.
