Whether her sincerity in her belief in Rawat in 1978 constitutes mental illness is difficult to say and it's probably unfair to speculate, but from listening to her I think she believed what she was saying, and truly loved him. I also think at that time he was generally a good father to his children. How she feels now, knowing about Monica, with none of the children going to college, only she can say. As you say, with her dependency on Rawat, and her fragile health, I would guess she feels like a prisoner. Reminds me of Diane Keaton in Godfather II.
