Yes, in the U.S., there IS a law for mandatory reporting, but there is also "religious privilege."  These two ideals are in direct conflict with each other, and the United States has not yet resolved the issue.  It is currently left up to the States, and there are 50 of those.  It's also a matter of individual lawsuits.   It's ridiculous.  But that's the world we live in at the moment.
