That's a great line Karen. It speaks to me of the fierce singlemindedness, & total focus on devotion to the Perfect Master, which was required by Prem Rawat. I think I'd've been frightened by you if we'd ever met back then, because I was always a lousy devotee. What I've come to understand though, is that the damage done is in direct proportion to the depth of belief, & that had little to do with one's position in the cult.

Of course, the people who abnegated themselves totally, gave up everything to ''catch the words of the master in the middle of the fight'' or however the song went, were screwed by him big time. I'll take the easy way out of explaining how I now feel about the relationship between myself & the cosmos, by quoting this well known poem, which kinda approximates.

Know then thyself, presume not God to scan; the proper study of mankind is man. Placed on this isthmus of a middle state, a being darkly wise & rudely great. With too much knowledge for the Sceptic side, with too much weakness for the Stoic's pride, he hangs between. In doubt to act or rest, in doubt to deem himself a god or beast, in doubt his mind or body to prefer.

Born but to die, & reasoning but to err; alike in ignorance, his reasoning such, whether he thinks too little or too much. Chaos of thought & passion, all confused, still by himself abused, or disabused. Created half to rise & half to fall, great lord of all things, yet a prey to all; sole judge of truth, in endless error hurled; the glory, jest, & riddle of the world.

Alexander Pope

Apologies for fucking with the punctuation.
