It's quite possible Rawat wasn't even "there." | |||

Or even that there was a "there." Linda Pascotto's press release is SO weasily, that it's impossible to say what in the hell happened, if anything, but it implies that Rawat was invited to speak at an event in the Herbst Theater sponsored by a UN-related organization. But here's what we know: The Herbst theater was rented on that day, not by any organization affliated in any way with the UN, but by the PREM RAWAT FOUNDATION. So, it looks like they staged it and Rawat "invited" himself to "lecture" at an event he put on for himself. There is no evidence that this "event" was advertised in any way, that is was open to the public, that it was announced even to premies, or, in fact, evidence of who, if anybody, attended this event. It was only announced to the public and the press after it supposedly happened. And in addition to what I said above, look at how creepy and vague this press release is (in part): Prem Rawat addresses special United Nations 60th Anniversary event San Francisco, June 28 — Responding to an invitation from the United Nations 60thAnniversary Committee, There is no evidence that the "United National 60th Anniversary Commitee" exists for any reason other than to be a facade to provide an "invitation" to Rawat for this event. There is something called the "UN60 Committee" that is part of the United Nations Association of Northern California," and it does appear that Bill McCarthy, who is a premie, is a member of the UNA, on their website, it does not list the event with Rawat as one of the events they are sponsoring. So it does appear that the "United Nations Anniversary Commimttee," that "invited" Rawat is either made up, or exists just for this "event." Prem Rawat addressed on June 24th a distinguished audience of diplomats, and government and civic leaders at an event held in celebration of the UN’s 60th anniversary at the Herbst Theater in San Francisco, where the UN Charter was signed sixty years ago. Prem Rawat "addressed" the audience, but the Press Release never says he was actually there, how big the "audience" was and who the "distinguished" people were. [I would also point out that the UN Charter was NOT signed at Herbst Theater, but at the War Memorial Opera House, which is next door, in a separate building, but considering what else is in this press release, this is probably just a minor error.] Welcoming the attendees, Bill McCarthy, Administrator of the UN 60th Anniversary Committee, Bill, the premie, is perhaps on the "UN 60th Committee" of the UNA of Northern California, but that is apparently different from the made-up group that "invited" Rawat, and as noted above, the UNA "UN 60 Commitee" did not sponsor the Rawat event, according to its website. “‘Peace,’ says Prem Rawat, ‘is possible.’ His affirmation stands in contrast to commonly accepted beliefs. His message is controversial in the noble sense of the word. He presents a message of hope and peace that challenges the commonly negative views of the world; his message is visionary and yet practical, profound, and yet relatable.” Bill McCarthy quotes Rawat, it isn't that Rawat said that at this "event." Nancy Peterson, President of the United Nations Association of San Francisco and President of the UN 60th Anniversary Committee, said: “How fortunate we all are to be here tonight in this historic place remembering these memories, which are so important to all of us and to our lives as citizens today. “The founding of the United Nations is the reflection of an ancient dream of mankind, because if you look at the writings of the ancient Romans and Greeks, they would comment: ‘Wouldn’t it be better if people could come together settle things by negotiations rather than resorting to war?’” Speaking of the day when the UN Charter was signed sixty years ago, Ms. Peterson said: “What a day this was for San Francisco. Many people still remember with honor and pride their parts in it. It is a part of the heritage of our city to remember the founding of the United Nations.” Nancy Peterson is listed as President of the UNA of San Francisco California, which does not show this event as part of it's official schedule, and note that it isn't even clear when or where Nancy Peterson said what she said, and she certainly doesn't mention Rawat. Isn't this the most weasily press release you have ever seen? Welcoming Prem Rawat, Astrid Stromberg, President of the UN Association of Northern California, said: “It is in the spirit of celebration for the accomplishments of the United Nations andof many millions of unnamed people around the world who strive to let peace dwell within the human spirit that we are gathered here. It is also in the hope that the peace that has kept eluding this world will in our lifetime become a reality. Prem Rawat’s message is from the heart. While the peace that he speaks of is of universal relevance and value, his message is profound, personal, and practical—from heart to heart. Peace, he says, is our birthright. It is already within, waiting to be felt. Peace, he says, is possible.” Ms. Stromberg may have "welcomed" Rawat, but it isn't clear she did it at Herbst Hall either, and it isn't clear from any of this that Rawat was even there.
