It's a bizarre name for any sort of science company, very odd indeed. Many years ago, some scientists thought there was some vital kind of substance, some life principle which infused living matter. The theory was called "vitalism" -- or "elan vital" in French. No sign was ever found of this mysterious "life substance". It turns out that life is not a substance of any kind, but that it arises when ordinary, non-living, matter is organised in the right way.
For a science based company to adopt the name of a discredited and outmoded scientific theory seems strange to me. I wonder if they considered the moniker "Phlogiston Inc" ?!
