The Isle of Wight Article -- She hit the essence of Rawat's problem | |||

I have to say the reporter in the Isle of Wight was a little evicerating in the way she described the two premies who were doing the "art" show. She's a great writer though, and considering what she had to work with, it' would have been impossible not to be a bit sarcastic. I wonder if this episode will deter other premies from putting themselves on the line and holding themselves out to ridicule for the incredibly dumb words of Mr. Rawat like those Dorri plastered under he photos and then could not explain. Loved this part. After going cross-eyed reading a Rawat quote that fulfillment comes from a seed and we need to go to the seed to learn trust (?!), and asking Dorrie about it and getting the usual circular, non-answers, the reporter turns to Dorri's husband: Her husband, Graham, also a seed and fulfilment enthusiast, is as vague as his wife when it comes to explaining what it is all about. "I have a feeling and I rely on that." What sort of feeling, is it, Graham? "I can't tell you. Some questions don't come with answers that fit into words. Some answers are a feeling." I am none the wiser. Graham has a feeling within him, which may or may not be indigestion, but it is central to the teaching of this Maharaji. "He provides four techniques which reveal an experience inside you." What are the techniques? "I can't tell you." Maybe after 30 years, these premie's brains are mush when it comes to the cult, but this is just so well done, in explaining what a cult looks like when you first encounter it, and the FIRST BIG RED FLAG is that the cult members don't answer your questions, or say they are unable to explain it. Vagueness is the first giveaway.
RULE: If a cult gives you "the gift" straight off, it will never get members.
Second RED FLAG, is that instead of answering your questions, they tell you to "listen more," instead. Again, even though one of those quotes said that knowledge is simple and anyone can do it, you cannot have it now, and they cannot tell you what it is, you have to "listen more" (perhaps a hundred hours more) first.
RULE AGAIN: If a cult gives you "the gift" too soo, it will never get members, because you can only really let yourself get indoctrinated if they can get you to the point where you want "the gift" so much you are willing to allow it and are willing to accept it all on blind, indoctrinated, faith.
Problem is, though, it doesn't seem people can get out of stage one, or at least not very many, if this "art show" is an example of how it's being done.
Plus, it only takes one article like this to make many, many people wary, thus reducing the pool from which recruitment can take place. But how do you attract people without doing publicity, and how do you avoid negative articles if the public and the press are aware of you? Big problem for Rawat, I think.
