The notion of "speaking your mind" in a cult is sort of whimsical, isn't it? By definition? "Oh Osama baby, I'm not sure I agree with all this business about Bush being the Devil. Tell you the truth, I think he's kind of cute." Yeah, that'd go over big. Or how about: "Maharaji, I really don't think it's good guru form for you to be screwing around with the premie sisters... but if you are shouldn't you at least get a divorce or something?" Funny that subject just never came up much.

A cult is a kind of group psychosis. It enables crazy beliefs and behaviors, and outlaws normal ones. If it didn't do that it'd just be another club.
