... or being pushed into a corner. The problem with a cult is that they largely already see themselves as being outside of society, and not bound by laws - the rules of society. So sure, when law enforcement bodies try to do their job and enforce the law, instead of complying, a cult may go further away from the agreed rules by which we live. One difference between a cult and a religion is that generally religions abide by the laws of the country they are in, and encourage their edherents to do so, so the deviance amplification is less likely to occur. The issue here is that the cult members are in a state of mind that when society forces them to choose, they choose their cult. Research should concentrate on the process that leads a law-abiding person into such a state of mind. I would also ask all premies to ask themselves which they would choose if it came to a choice, and if they would choose Rawat, they should ask themselves if there are limits on what they would do for Rawat.
