Well, as a matter of fact, he said he was doing what Rawat told him to do.

And it's not just me, clearly, David Smith is the most hated cult honcho of them all, on more than one continent. (Don't get Patrick Wilson started.)

Anyhow, I know we have had this discussion before, but I believe strongly that even in our culthink, we still bear individual responsibility to some degree.  That's why there weren't many David Smiths.  Plus, David was a bit of an exception because people openly talked about how nuts he was, including a lot of the other Initiators.

So, I believe that there was a qualitative difference.  If there was a predisposition to be an abuser, or if somebody was already nuts, that played out in the cult in a way different from  somebody who was more balanced and mentally healthy.

But I agree, in the end Rawat should be taking responsibility for all that, and of course he doesn't.  He's the one who:

1.  Put people in situations in which they were vulnerable to people like Smith; and

2.  Set peole like Smith loose on them, without any follow-up, or even concern about the people who had devoted their lives to him.
