From my limited knowledge of the Bible, I think Jesus meant judge the deed, not necessarily the person as being something beyond our own ability to do the same under circumstances.I also kind of think he meant in general don't go around gossiping about everyone you know without knowing all the circumstances, otherwise they will do the same about you. In other words, on a human level, don't rush to be a gossip.
Fair comment, however remains fair comment.
This is one reason why we are entitled to comment on John Macgregor's apology.
John has been a major commentator here, and probably a great influence on many.
It is therefore of concern that we reasonably assess his present statements and mind-set, not least because there will probably be some attempt by other people to interpret his predicament as being the result in the first place of daring to analyse and use his own sense in evaluating his involvement in a group movement.
Whatever the immediate source of John's problems, and how much (great) sympathy we have for him, it must be reiterated that here we will continue ongoingly to stress the values of free speech and discussion.
Under all circumstances we will hopefully continue to assert the right of free conscience and debate, for the good not just of ourselves, but for everyone who reads here, and the principles involved, which transcend any particular individual who may temporarily have the focus.
