From a Hindu propagation standpoint, the myth serves a purpose, because it puts a band-aid on the family rift, and, by extension, excuses Rawat's lavish Western escapades.
Otherwise, Hindus would have serious reservations about listening to a "successful private investor" from Malibu talk incessantly about inner peace.
