Is it true that Rawat's real mother died during childbirth? According to the postulation, Rawat's mother Mata Ji is actually his "other" mother, because his father was polygamous. It also lends an air of mystery surrounding Rawat's atypical lineage.
This information comes from my partner, who is a practicing premie. She told me this by way of explaining Rawat's behavior during the family dispute that split Divine Light Mission into two camps. She indicates that Rawat was not bound by family obligation to Mata Ji, since she was not actually his birth mother. Therefore, he could disrespect Mata Ji's parentage and marry a Westerner.
I am raising this question in order to hopefully dispel this myth. I think it is widely used in India and Nepal to propagate the myth that Rawat stems from holy origins. And it is used to explain his disrespect towards Mata Ji, which, under normal circumstances, is a considerable offense in Indian culture.
