As to the things your students say, well they have to start somewhere don’t they. As the latest inheritors of the rich stew of truth and lies called traditional or conventional wisdom we, having been there ourselves, surely can relate.

I have to ask you premiespouse, hope you don’t mind, but do you believe in Jesus? Or did your mum? If someone were to say something like, oh say JeezusSchmeezus, would you find that lack of respect uncomfortable, even offensive?

It seems to me that the previous generation to mine (I’m 50) decided that the way to stop people’s beliefs from causing wars and untold suffering was to become tolerant. To be able to tolerate even respect whatever people believe. And maybe our generation has decided to try talking it out, rather brave of us really. Goodness knows what the next lot will try!
