I was sitting on the floor at the DECA satsang hall, right at his feet.  But, I must have been "drunk" on darshan bliss (actually I know I was) so I didn't notice his state of sobriety. 

Even if I smelled it on his breath I would have denied it.  What!  Maharaji drinks?  Impossible!  Why would he drink?  He's the Lord in constant bliss!

Nobody went home to be with their loved ones that Christmas.
