Whatever culpability China might have for getting the virus going, there are plenty of leaders - Trump, Johnson, Bolsonaro - who had the warnings that what China had was coming our way and who did nothing. Trump dismissed it as a flu thing that was no big deal and wasn't coming anyway, I think Bolsonaro is worse in that regard, and Boris thought us plucky Brits would quickly gather herd immunity.
Yeah, China tried to cover it up, pretend it wasn't happening. Then so did the US, UK, Brazil. There were plenty of warnings.
Some kids stayed at my house once and poked some items into the bar of an electric fire. Things caught light, and the kids thought if they just covered it up... The whole house burned down. One kid in hospital and me standing in the street with all I owned. A shirt and a pair of underpants.
