Rather than transporting kilos of freight (with virtually no retail value) around the globe - with the consequent environmental costs - wouldn't it be more sensible to get the dosh/spondoolicks/cash etc to a contact in Afghanistan who can then buy locally-sold (and manufactured) goods at local prices? And as for Afghanistan being a "godforsaken shithole", well if it is one, then it's as a consequence of the super-powers' influence in the region. Daisy-cutter bombs and all.
I was in Delhi when the Russian invasion began. Prior to that, Afghanistan was no more a shit-hole than many parts of the UK.
