The idea of promoting the negative and discounting the positive is an old trick that only an idiot would fall for.
Let's do it to Jesus.
He did nothing but associate with prostitutes, encouraged drinking by turning water into wine, smashed up a temple, had female devotees wash his feet with expensive oil, his followers repudiated him, one betrayed him, one cut the ear of someone, he laid curses on anyone who disagreed with him, he doubted his own understanding, he allowed people to worship him and when he died he had about a dozen devotees.
And this is what his followers said of him!
Clearly he was an absolute jerk with no redeeming features.Perhaps you, or anyone, could give me an example of the sort of person you would accept a gift from?
