Hi Tempora,I'm wondering what you mean by "who originally taught such imaginative stuff". I recall the young Perfect Master giving a pretty poor rehash of standard Indian religion "enlivened" by examples from his personal infatuations with watches, cars, etc and a few stories from Indian mythology. For many years he was just repeating a pretty narrow message which later he made more personal.
I have no personal knowledge of Prem Rawat himself but it doesn't require a a residue of sincerity to enable him to connect up with the hearts of his audiences. Some of the most charismatic religious, political and artistic figures who enthrall, inspire and uplift their audiences do so without any shred of sincerity. Prem seems to be able to do it with only a very small percentage of human beings, those who have been initially persuaded by existing devotees.
