Even at the time when DLM was approaching bankruptcy after Millenium 73 Rawat's personal desires always were paramount. What is truly astonishing to me is how much money so few (relatively speaking) premies were able to generate to allow him to indulge his whims. This meant that there has been too little available to fund propagation, not that would have made any difference. While I often contrast the openness and truth-telling of the 70's era I recall that even then the number one commandment was never publicly mentioned: Premies must always attempt to satisfy Prem Rawat's desires for luxury while attempting to hide as much as possible the opulence and vulgarity.
Attempting to understand and explain the chaotic history of Rawatism is extremely difficult unless you take the perspective that Rawat is selfish, venal and heedless of anything but his own whims and then the it is pretty straighforward.
