The Prem Rawat Foundation: Knoxville Welcomes Prem Rawat

For Immediate Release

KNOXVILLE, Tenn./EWORLDWIRE/Sep. 2, 2005 --- Prem Rawat, who has provided inspiration and guidance to millions of people in more than 50 countries on finding peace within, made his first visit to Knoxville, Tennessee on Sunday and addressed an enthusiastic audience of more than 1,200 at the Knoxville Convention Center. The event drew local leaders, academics and students from the University of Tennessee, as well as people from Knoxville and the surrounding areas.

Melissa Mann of nearby Maryville, Tennessee organized the event. The daughter of a former U.S. foreign service diplomat who served in several countries, Ms. Mann teaches English at a local college. "Knoxville responded very positively," Ms. Mann said. "People were very excited to hear that Prem Rawat had accepted our invitation, and a lot of people came to see him, not just from Knoxville, but Atlanta, Memphis, Birmingham - all over."

Prem Rawat, who is widely known by the title Maharaji, has traveled the world continuously since childhood, inspiring audiences from all walks of life to find peace within. Last year, nearly 1.5 million people came to seek his inspiration and guidance. Excerpts of his events are featured in the award-winning television program "Words of Peace," which is broadcast throughout the world. His message has been translated into 70 languages and his talks are made available in 88 countries.

Addressing the people in Knoxville, he said, "I am talking about a peace without which we would lose the very fabric of who we are, a peace that dances in the heart of everyone. Not an absence of something, but the very presence of something. That is what is possible. We know peace is beautiful, but now the time has come to actually feel that peace in our life."

Prem Rawat is the founder of The Prem Rawat Foundation, which spearheads significant humanitarian initiatives to improve the quality of life for people most in need. This year alone, it has donated more than $180,000 to the United Nations World Food Programme, organized tsunami hunger relief efforts in Sri Lanka and conducted free medical clinics in northern India. The Foundation is currently conducting a relief effort to help victims of Hurricane Katrina in the U.S. Gulf Coast states.
