I don't think that our possible personal psychological problems (and after all everybody has them if you want to raise the bar on how a human being should be high enough) were necessarily the reason that you might believe a man could be God incarnate. After all this is, and has been, the belief of the majority of people who have ever been alive. As a personal matter my Dad was a lovely person though I certainly had problems with my mother and she also with me.
As to the specific matter that Rawat could be the current incarnation of God I doubt you were initially attracted by the idea that this fat screecher was God and you should kiss his feet, were you? Wasn't it more like premies telling you how wonderful practising this Knowledge was and how high they were (maybe they didn't say that but they were acting it out in front of anyone interested) and you could be too and the guru was part of the package that you could initially take or leave?
