Hippie is generally considered a pejorative, around here anyway.The pressure to move into the ashram was intense. I disliked the guru part of the trip, but the mahatmas impressed me, especially Rajeswar. You are right, I really thought it was the road to enlightenment and was sorely disappointed when meditation was, as Joe so aptly stated, a deadly boring grind.
I really liked living in a house with lots of women though, and even if we weren't supposed to act like normal young people it was fun to be around them. I was shocked when I learned that the sexes were separated in the ashrams after I left. I never would lasted five minutes in that program.
