I think it's accepted that "brainwashing" is simply telling someone something over and over and over again, until they believe it. In the premie world this was once called "satsang". Someone checks that you believe, then you are initiated. Once inside, it's infered that leaving the cult will be very bad for you. And you are told this over and over too.

That's what I think.
