There is no serous dispute that becoming disillusioned and leaving a cult can be a traumatic experience. Even several "cult apologists" admit this. I guess leaving is always a combination of loss and liberation that differs very much per person and the circumstances and the reason for leaving. In my case, disillusionment and leaving was traumatic and it took me years to recover. The late Jan Groenveld (Ex-Jehovah Witnesses) who ran the yahoo group ex-cult-support wrote and founder of CAIC wrote that it took her and others years to recover.
