It's clear that Prem Rawat has never been interested in anything but his own image, not only publicly but also within the cult. Had he admitted anything about the charges against Jagdeo coming to his attention back in the 70s, when the abuse was first reported, he would have had to concede that he isn't omnisient or all-knowing, which was a large part of the belief-system. But, I also think this is interesting, from the EV faqs (which demonstrates the extent the cult will go to to lie and cover up): Is is true that this group has committed criminal acts against the organizations and Maharaji's supporters? Filing formal complaints to professional regulatory bodies to have the law and psychology licenses of Maharaji's students revoked. Fortunately, no regulatory body found any allegations worthy of formal investigation;http://www.elanvital.org/events2004/faq_opposition_i.htm I don't know how filing a complaint with a professional regulatory board constitutes a "criminal act," but I also know the faq is based on a post I made. I never have filed any complaints anywhere. I did want to. When victim "A" was discussing her abuse by Jagdeo openly on the forum, one day she came online, extremely distraut and upset, and reported that Valerio Pascotto was contacting her father, who was then still a premie, and he was talking to "A's" father about her accusations. She was very upset and was pleading with EV, through her post on the forum to leave her father alone and to contact her directly or her representative directly. She was in terrible emotional shape at the time and I got very angry. The cult was revictimizing her, plain and simple, so I did say I would make a complaint about Pascotto, but again, I never did. So that's where that faq came from, unless someone else did make a complaint about Pascotto to the California board that I'm unaware of. It's still not a "criminal act!" I think if Prem Rawat had a clue about public relations (not even child abuse but just pr), it would have far better for him in the short and long run, and especially for the protection of any at-risk children, to have reported the abuse to the police, openly discussed it as a very bad thing that happened, etc, and encouraged anyone who was a victim or had information about it to come forward to the authorities (not the cult) to investigate the abuse charges. He could have come out smelling like a rose if he had done that. But no. He chose to cover it up. What did happen was that 1) the two abuse victims were revictimized by the denial of by cult as a direct result of their posting on the ex-premie forum; and 2) they are still denying it, and so far have only paid it lip service by placing the harrassment statement on the website, which is a shabby excuse for addressing sexual abuse. Plus, when was it that they placed that statement on the EV website, in 2001? Also very shabby, since sexual harassment legal notices have been required by law to be posted in any place of employment for far longer than that in the U.S. Modified by Cynthia at Thu, Mar 17, 2005, 11:12:28 |
