Yeah, I agree it was bad, particularly the psychological dehumanization.  That was rampant.

But I think the thing that struck me, was that it wasn't physically more abusive than it was.  You know, more paranoia, more isolation, more bizarre rituals, "group confessions" (although that did happen some).  Given the underlying belief system, that the world is all maya and Rawat is the Lord and that's all that matters, it could have been worse in a physical sense.

Although there was physical abuse, it wasn't all that extreme, mostly just overwork, overlooking medical problems, and the like, and there was surprisingly little sexual abuse, but that happened as well.

Certainly there was financial abuse.

Renne Davis actually has a lot to answer for, not so much that he got sucked in himself, but that he has done nothing since he left the cult to work any of it out, and in fact tries to hide the fact that he was even in the cult.  I know it's embarrassing, but he was someone who gave me confidence that the cult was really okay, because, someone as committed and dedicated as Renne was speaking on its behalf, and not only just as an individual, be as an out-front spokesperson for the Lord of the Universe, and how his "gift" would bring peace to the world.
