Police seize 345,000 used condoms that were cleaned and sold as new

17 cents for a kilo of used condoms.  omg.  A kilo.  I don't know what I'm more surprised at - that she can find that many condoms or how little she gets for them.

and really, good grief, it's cheaper to repurpose the condoms than make new ones???  that really surprises me.

possibly the answers lie in protectionism - the emperor's nephew has a condom business and nobody else can get a licence to make them - that sort of thing.  Maybe the market price for them is high enough to make that 17 cents a kilo plus cost of repurposing worth it.
