Here's a 21 minute with Richard Spencer the night before his Gainsville, Florida speech. He's smoking a big cigar and sipping a lot of whiskey as he talks about white supremacy. A real sweetheart if there ever was one.

You choose to smear me by lying that I'm somehow supportive of a white supremacist, using my real name, no less. But then you whine like a baby when I use your first name in reply. Can you not see how that's an abuse of your precious anonymity? It is. And if you keep it up I'll use your whole name.

First, I used your posting name, 'Jim', which happens to be your real name.

Second, I made a mistake confusing Robert Spencer and Richard Spencer.  I apologize.

Can you delete this thread?

At least you didn't do it on purpose, that would've been unforgivable malice, but really. Even I who live several thousand miles away in another country have heard of Richard Spencer (just) & would put him at the other end of the noxious American racial politics spectrum to the Rev Sharpton, another gargoyle of whom I know little & aren't inclined to find out more. That you could confuse the former with Robert Spencer, an expert in comparative theology & a staunch believer in the 1st amendment, is beyond me.

Maybe you don't really care about the 1st amendment, have given it up as a joke due to the lies & corruption of politics, but some haven't. Maybe you don't believe there's a fundamental difference between Islam & all other religions, but some do.

Confusing a racial bigot with a man who attempts to explain the religious motivation for jihad violence is par for the course in the US these days, is it?

Jim's always going on about how Britain is doomed, something I find slightly irritating from time to time, but I hope you won't take it amiss if I say that America is totally fucked too, if you are anything to go by.

I know it was. I sometimes wish I could gently slide into geezerdom* the way my old man did, not getting agitated about shit going on in the wider world, cracking jokes, fiddling about with lengths of wood in his shed, & all that.

The internet has changed that pattern for those so inclined....

*that's a great American usage btw. Geezer is a London slang word, like guy, feller, bloke, chap, etc, & over here you have to put in 'old', so 'old geezer'. I approve of dropping the old & adding the dom.

Hi Pat,

I do understand how that must bug you. It might also seem hypocritical as you know I love Britain too and love visiting there and so much about its history and culture. I'm a sucker for old buildings and shit like that. What can I tell you?

Also, please remember that it's not just Britain that I'm going on about. I often note how Canada is blithely prancing down the same path. Just this week, even as the left here (and that includes almost all the media) is complaining about the new anti-niqab legislation in Quebec, a Quebec father there has been arrested for assaulting his daughter for years for taking off her hijab in public. The only thing is that one little report like that would be almost quaint and charming in Britain now, it happens so regularly there. Or there's the story of the Saudi student at UBC who was let off his attempted murder charge on the basis of temporary insanity yesterday. He'd been influenced by the Koran and tried to cut off the head of a girl in his dorm. The judge accepted the defence argument that anyone who does that must be "crazy". What's the word I saw today, "Islamity"? But again, these are still relatively isolated stories here. Fewer Muslims, fewer stories. It's not rocket science.

At the same time, perhaps because we're right next to the states, we do seem to have a fuller sense of free speech than Britain's maintained. You guys are truly in an Orwellian phase now and that's no exaggeration. I'm sure that you must find that even more than slightly irritating when you think of it. And I'm also sure that you, as the smart, informed guy you are, think of it often.

So I don't know. I'm a talker. I can't help myself. I'm chatty and this seems like stuff to talk about. It really does seem plausible that one day in the not too distant future John may have to remove his link to JW here. I don't know. Already the conversation there is constrained and risky.

Fortunately, the states has that damn constitution although the left is doing all it can to gut its impact. We all know the stories. Or at least those of us who are bothering to watch.

These guys here who bleat "racism" like mindless sheep are impossible to talk with. So why do I bother? I don't know.

But here's one for you -- and this is Canadian again. The other night a pop singer in Halifax tried to segregate her crowd, inviting all the blacks up front and asking whites to go to the back. A white photographer who was shooting the show refused to go and was kicked out. The festival hosting the concert then apologized for the photographers' "racism" as well as that of some of the other white volunteers working the show who also stayed up front. And our ridiculous liberal media reported it as if that was shamefully racist on the volunteers' part.

Obama fucked America so bad. I dare anyone to read Heather MacDonald's books "The War on Cops" or the earlier "Are Cops Racists?" and disagree. All this victimhood nonsense is like the paralyzing part of the venom that breaks down all resistance before the rest of the poison (Islam) finishes us off.

So now we can still talk about this. I don't take that for granted anymore.

Yeah I know Jim. Conflating distrust & dislike of Islam based on an understanding of the teachings, with racism, is a deliberate & dishonest ploy which now appears to have got such a grip on the minds of many, that it's hard to see how it could be changed. Of course it isn't only a problem in the UK, & I'm not sure it's worse here than in many other parts of the western world. There has been very recently 'guidance' from an EU body to journalists, on how to report on 'immigrant' issues in general; which words to use & which to avoid. You couldn't make it up.

Will there be a change here after we leave the EU? Too early to say, & if May & co fuck up the all important details, which they appear to be doing, we're heading for the sort of unimaginable catastrophe after which anything could happen, none of it good.

Multiculturism is really all that remains of the once mighty marxist ideology, & its adherents aren't allowing it to die of natural causes, instead it must be kept alive, if necessary by lies & slander.

I know a couple of black people who would've been mortified & embarrassed to have been invited down the front like that. Mind you, they aren't teenagers anymore & so wouldn't've been there to begin with.

As the inimitable Pat Condell used to say................Peace.

I thought it was an invention of the 60's academics - all the funding, all the progressive ideas.  All of a sudden young children got assaulted by those bright colours instead of the softer hues, and that was supposed to be good for them!?!

so I went looking.  Stuart Hall, (British I assume, Jamaican by race) is credited with starting it.  so yes the 60's but coming from Marxist background - he was a contributor to their newspaper.  (he also coined the phrase Thatcherism.)

So, according to this article I just read, he was asking for ways to be developed for the different races to get on better in Britain.

I have always found multiculturalism hard to take - my eyes don't deceive me that person does have a different colour skin, I don't need to be told they're still a real person.

I've been shocked at how nasty people can be about different races, and I think it is that element that is commonly understood to be racist.  But I'm not going to pretend I don't make use of generalisations that are based on race just the same.

And tho I know all the elements of fame funding and fury must have been at play, tho multiculturalism was ill-conceived and bound to fail, I can't help but be touched that they tried to address a real problem, and ease the difficulties faced in particular in Britain with all the influx from a widespread colony.

I live in a part of England where non-white faces are few & far between, so maybe I'm not the best person to judge the state of race relations here. It seems to me though that they are far better than anyone could've predicted 40 yrs ago.

Whether that's because of multiculti & legislation I don't know, but I suspect not so much. When I was young, half-caste kids, as we used to call them, were as rare as albinos. Now mixed race young people are so common as to be unremarkable. Something changed around 20 or so yrs ago, & whatever it was I reckon it probably had more to do with proximity over time than anything else.

The real problem is the Muslims. They mostly aren't interested in integration, & watch out any girl who wants to strike up a relationship with whitey. Their culture is based on a religion of subjection & domination, which very unfortunately is on the wax rather than the wane.

I don't have a solution, but I do know that refusing to recognise the problem & labelling anyone who does as racist or islamophobic is not going to improve anything.

If a grip isn't got on this I wouldn't be surprised in the future to see armed conflict in Europe, the weaponry supplied to 'populists' by the Russians, who have their own dog in this fight.

As for here, we'll probably allow them to set up a parallel state, with all opposition to it crushed by the criminalisation of language.

I really hope I'm wrong.

It is over 200 years since the first fleet landed here and when you read the accounts of what happened they were as duplicitous as any Arab horse trader and as brutal as you like.  The naval culture with it's cat o' nine tails as deliberate in it's subjection and domination as any religion.

I'm not donning any hairshirt over it all - I'm not the one who done it.  And no racial cringe either - right from the first fleet there were Englishmen who conducted themselves admirably.

It's sad, isn't it - all the bad stuff that's gone down.

I can't imagine how armed conflict could be conducted between countries in Europe now.  The organisation involved in recalling British citizens in Europe before the second world war must have been impressive.  Not possible now and I can't see internment camps being an option either.  I can't see governments being able to manage internal affairs and conduct a war at the same time, I think they'd collapse under the pressure.  Islam is already at war.  And the nastiest weapon in their arsenal is the home-grown jihadist.  sort of like their version of a communist mole.

I had to mention a mole.  I like animals, she said employing her ostrich technique, and what's not to like about a mole?  okay okay so a few mounds of earth in the lawn.  Is that so awful?

I didn't know you had them down under. Surprisingly small, aren't they, relative to the size of the hill that is. I used to vaguely wonder how many of them you'd need to make a pair of moleskin trousers, before realising far too late in life the material there is a type of hardwearing inferior cotton, making them eminently suitable for C19th agricultural peons. I say inferior because the top comes off after a few washes, leaving them looking shiny & definately not elegant.

Howzat for deflection?

I wasn't actually thinking of war between european states, which as you say is fortunately a remote possibility, but within them, which isn't. I don't want to go on about it..too depressing, & anyway the future is not ours to know.

yeah no we don't have moles over here.  And the wombats are quite large.  Isn't that funny - I only know of moleskin in it's use here as a superior fabric - RM Williams moleskin trousers are expensive, for the well-dressed farmer.  But growing up in England I remember wondering the same thing as you.  My father once trapped a mole and cured it's skin so I saw it pinned to a board.

Personally I was on the side of the mole.  I couldn't understand why gardener's thought it was so awful to have their mounds appearing in the lawn.  well I could sort of understand it but what a nice animal to have around.  When they started talking about communist moles I always used to picture them as these gentle little furry things blinking in the sunlight.

I just went and looked up ostriches.  I'm not quite sure what to make of the image - their head completely disappears into a hole in the sand, goodness it looks funny in an odd way.  and the explanation for it is they have a nest in there and are turning the eggs.

I guess the idea that they're hiding from predators would have something to do with how vulnerable it makes them to being crept up on by a hungry human.  But it's nice to know they do have a good reason to do it.

War within, yes that is a pretty awful thought - and it does have that ring of clarity about it.  Damn.  How horrible.  xox.

I can't believe that Richard Spencer's constituency is anything other than a very small percentage of the, what is it, 300 million Americans. Hardly the masses. Robert Spencer points out that Islam is not a race, but a religious ideology which includes all races, whites too.

Are you one of those who would like to start a race war in the US?

I'm too old for war.

Here in the USA, a quiet racism exists.  The whites know that at sometime in the near future given current immigration and reproductive rates, they will become the minority. The America Firsters know how to play on this fear.

I think of it as their need now to create a more subtle form of South African apartheid. They are now using such tactics as gerrymandering to control the House and many of the state legislatures.  They also are using an undocumented fear of voter fraud to suppress the non-white vote. Modern day Jim Crow laws.

I'd be pissed off too if I was a non-white but no war for me, thank you.

Well, thank you for more than a one line cryptic response.

If the melting pot model isn't working anymore, then importing people who want to overturn your constitutional arrangements in favour of their own, doesn't seem like a recipe for harmony.

Don't you have enough problems to be going on with?

Vast majority of immigrants here are not Muslims. They come, but not as much recently, to seek whatever the American Dream was meant to be but certainly is no longer the case. They vote if allowed to when they become citizens.

I'm just one of those old fashioned geezers who likes to celebrate the start of the weekend by staying up far too late, as I don't have to get up for work in the morning.

I'll be out like a light 15 mins from now...fortunately no problems in that area.

btw, just been reading earlier about General Howe & the American War of Independence... his sympathies were with the colonists, but his duty was to the King. In trying to reconcile the two he failed to stifle the rebellion. So, if he hadn't been on your side all along there wouldn't've been an America for anyone to dream on. Reminds me of how to really piss off a Texan.....just say...if there'd been a back door there wouldn't've been an Alamo.

Good night.

Read a book many moons ago....Short History of American Revolution, maybe. That suggested that if General Howe had not been diddling female sympathisers in Philadelphia, George Washington would have been destroyed at Valley Forge.
