Merry Christmas to you, Lesley.

Here in California we're very behind in rain so far this season. California only gets rain from about October through maybe March. After that, no rain.

It's interesting here in that the grasses in the fields and the hills and yards grows during the winter rainy season. So, you've got all these tall grasses that are chest high coming up in all over the place and it's so beautiful and then during the dry summer all those grasses completely dry out and become excellent tinder to start big fires.

And Donald Trump says that California needs to rake/clean the floor of the forests. Like that's even possible. For starters what do you do with all that material? How do you even remove tons and tons of debris from the forests?

I can understand controlled burns, but removing debris by hand is not going to work.

Where I hike they do bring in a giant herd of goats to eat the dried grasses. It's funny though because a few years ago the goats had gone through this one section but then some how a fire started and it did burn the stubble and eventually hit grass that the goats didn' t get in another section. And trees, too. Sadly, that fire killed 4 horses.
