Here's an article about the left in the UK's designs to exploit the crisis as an opportunity for radical change:

https://www.conservativehome.com/leftwatch/2020/03/how-the-left-is-exploiting-the-coronavirus-for-political-gain.html

Look at that bit by the economist quoted in the end:

“We must demand not simply a bigger state, but a more democratic one too. The only way to counter the oligarchic tendencies now emerging within many western democracies is to deepen the accountability of public officials to working people. Government departments, central banks, and quangos must all be subject to much deeper public scrutiny. If the government does embark upon a programme of mass bailouts, the corporations it saves should be run by the people, not just a tiny elite”, before suggesting the “epoch-defining” pandemic could signal “the beginning of state-monopoly capitalism.”

And there are leftists salivating this way everywhere.

Of course we see the the heavy hand of leftist suppression of dissent, eradication of choice, invasion of privacy, and implementation of countless governmental economic measures instead of markets. Individual freedom be damned. For progressives this is a glorious moment and some, like those sampled in that piece but there are so many more, are relishing it.

And then there's the rising tyranny of the tech giants where privacy, choice and free speech concerns are steam-rolled over with increasing alacrity. Facebook and Google didn't create the virus but it sure doesn't hurt their business model.

I don't think it's right to simply undo the lockdown, no way, but I also think it's imposed in rather ridiculously heavy-handed and excessive ways in places. This, too, I attribute to a leftist or progressive impulse to exercise control.

Here's what I think. China fucked us. Unimaginably. No less than if they'd declared war on the whole damn planet. And it's going to be really interesting to see if the left will have the honesty to admit this.

What's your view on China's culpability?
