You're right about the international coordination & the problem is with the present WHO boss, not the existence of the institution. I doubt Trump will actually cut off funding;it's a political message he's sending by saying so, but of course I could be wrong.

I don't know about the situation in Germany. It seems to be better than in the UK, but the reasons for that, if so, aren't being examined here.

Actually, the WHO required its members to produce a plan for dealing with an epidemic in 2005. Apparently it could've been interpreted as a plan for a flu outbreak & a SARS plan, an either or, or both. Here in the UK the govt., at the time Labour, took it to mean a flu outbreak, & came up with a strategy which essentially meant holding on until a vaccine was developed. This plan was worked on over the years & finalised in 2014 when the govt. was Conservative.

This is the plan which was taken off the shelf & implemented here. A plan for the wrong disease. At the moment I'd guess this analysis is considered correct by very few people.

So, much as I loathe our present Prime Minister, it's difficult to believe anyone else of whatever political persuasion would have done it any differently.

You say apropos of the Chinese reaction to criticism...What if they are the first to come up with a vaccine?...

I'd expect them to share it worldwide in the spirit of international cooperation. That you suspect they might not is the implication, unless I'm reading you wrongly, & surely there's a reading on the moral compass right there.

Anyway, I hope all is well with you & yours.
