I just posted on Facebook about something I don't recall ever posting about here. After Jonestown, when I had recently left the ashram, one day the Miami Herald arrived at my mom's apartment. I read it and began trembling. In it was this quote from Bob Mishler. "Once, Ji ordered two members of his personal staff to strip and poke each other's penises with sticks while he watched" https://www.prem-rawat-bio.org/newspapers/1979/miamiherald_19790312.html This chilled me, and chilled me more so because of what I knew about Jagdeo, (and recall, it was more than just what happened to me). This horrible report in a newspaper of agya ordering sexual humiliation of followers, by Prem Rawat himself, gave me chills in light of Jagdeo. I was terrified. I was 17. But I called the Miami Herald and asked to talk to the reporter. The Miami Herald paid my taxi fare from South Miami to the Miami Herald Building on Biscayne Bay. Can you imagine how scary this was for a 17 year old who had only months ago left the ashram? I told Mr. Doig about Jagdeo. He was very kind. But the journalist rules were then, that if I was not willing to be named, he could not write about what I told him. I was utterly, utterly, scared I might be killed. We all knew about Pat Halley and Fakiranand. I was too afraid to be named. Mr. Doig was so nice. He encouraged me to go to college and pursue journalism. Just saying that bring tears to my eyes; I could not have felt more hopeless in that moment. Just that little bit of caring meant a lot. I can find old post of how I have been trying to find that article from years ago. I don't remember if before I said why. I thought I would see if he remembered me. I wasn't sure he would; I am sure Guru Maharaj Ji was one of many many stories in his career. I probably didn't want another experience of saying something happened and someone not remembering. In 2019, as you know, this Prem Rawat past and the cover-ups became much more upsetting to me. I finally found the above article about a year or two later, after the CNN interview, and got the reporter's name. Unlike Randy Prouty and Judy Osborne.
