But this has been talked about endlessly by ex-premies, and in some ways it is the crux of the problem people have with Rawat lying about all that.  It was a bait and switch.

Because he sold it to us as salvation, and all the things you mentioned, people devoted their lives to him and to his mission of "saving the world. So, people trashed their lives for sometimes decades to surrender to him and serve him, like he was Jesus Christ returned, which he in fact said he was.

So, then, at some point many years later, when "saving the world" has obviously been an utter failure, Rawat just changes the subject and pretends all that never happened.   History is rewritten to erase Houston '73 and all the inconvenient statements and events, and to the extent it can't be erased, Rawat blames everybody but himself, including the victims, for getting it all wrong.  He even apparently calls us all "assholes."

It's outrageous.  It's also insane, and it's actually more complicated than that.  Many of the people who have hung in there from his "blatant God" period actually still believe it's true, believe it or not.  They just know they aren't supposed to talk about that to anybody who also doesn't believe it.  They just hang in there with the faint hope that he really is the Messiah and at some point it's all going to unfold, while at the same time watching Rawat morph into Dale Carnegie with a weight problem who has a much bigger house, more servants, and has his feet kissed.

It's just too maddening to think about.  No wonder so many premies are nuts.
