I feel exactly the same way and you said it very well.  A good example of this is a couple of weeks ago, I was weeding out my rolodex with my husband and we came upon the phone number for the White House. 

We both laughed because I said, "No keep it. I like to have that phone number handy, in case I want to make a comment to the President."  I'm completely aware that no President cares what I have to say to or about him, but I still reserve the right to say it.

Once you've served the "Lord," one's eyes open wide to the fact that people are just people, regardless of their station in life.
