Once, I think in about 1980 I was wandering around Central London trying to get to a program or something and I looked into a very expensive, posh jewellers shop window.( I think it was near Regent Street but I can't quite remember). To my stunned puzzlement there was a Gold Maharaji medallion on display for sale in the window. I tried to make sense of it and looked at it for quite a long time. It was a huge ,heavy looking chunk of gold on a long thick gold chain.A contemporary picture of Rawat had been etched onto the gold in colour. The etching had quite clearly been done by hand. The piece was definitely for a man . There was no label on it, it was just there for sale in quite a prominent position but that amount of gold would have cost an awful lot of money.
A gift that had been sold off for cash ?? Very strange but true.
