" Dans ma Maison" is actually my favourite and for some reason ,surreal though it is, if I read it aloud I can hardly get to the end without becoming tearful.

Although the English translation (by Johnny Mercer I think) of " Les Feuilles Mortes"  is poignant in it's own right the original which you quote is far less sugary and more subtle.I don't know why the "translations" of French poems/songs seem so often to be complete rewrites, as if the original needed to be improved (rarely the case). IMO the most typical example of this was Claude Francois'  " Comme D'habitude" ..... a brilliantly understated and touching domestic tale of falling out of love .......totally annihalated by Paul Anka who transformed it into one of the most successful ballads of all time ( with Frank's help) " My Way" ( I guess, as a result " Clo Clo" made loads of money in royalties though...sad he didn't live long enough to spend it all!). I prefer the original by miles.

Best wishes to you, Tempora.
