I don't know whether it worked for Mat_thijs but awareness of the existence of false gurus hardly helped me, because I believed that those followers of false gurus were unlike me, deluded, stupid, ignorant and into a cult. I vaguely remember me thinking that about the (ex-)followors of Maharaji when I was still a follower of SSB. I deeply apologize for my ignorant, arrogant, unsympathetic and deluded thoughts. I agree with Jim who wrote that young people who now fall for unreliable gurus are more to blame than those in the 1970s. They have had quite a lot of warnings by now.
