It is not that there is anything wrong with marketing, as long as it is ethical marketing.

I see a lot of it in IT. The ethical presenters give the presentaion on their services, and try not to gild the lily too much. Technical questions, they refer to their technical experts who answer honestly.

Bad IT marketing, of which there has been too bloody much in the past four years, has the quasi charismatic salespeople pitching at the emotions of business people who are a pretty technically illiterate lot, but who can't afford to admit it. They are gold dust for the hard sell IT salesmen. People who are afraid to admit I don't know. Then they just bamboozle their audience with crap jargon and are masters at the art of dodging straight questions. And not a technical advisor in sight.

Like a certain someone who is selling snake oil to gullible punters, or is that keys to the credulous.
