Songster if it is any help, in my professional life I deal with IT systems architecture, and as a consultant I go to a client and look at the systems and try diplomatically to advise them. Because IT systems are someones brainchild, there is always emotions and often anger involved when a dispassionate report tells them their systems are non-optimal.

Nobody wants to hear the truth, no matter how diplomatically you can put it.

Therefore my advice is to start developing the habit of 'tell the truth and shame the devil'. You may encounter a lot of anger, but at least you can live with yourself!
