Your experience doesn't match mine. For me there was always a small minority who had heard of Maharaji, and many people mixed him up with the Maharishi, who because of the Beatles connection was far more well known. You're right, that amongst those who had heard of him, the "13 year old boy guru" epithet was a good reminder.

Anyway, I live in Latvia now and thankfully pretty much no one here has heard of him!
